Women's Basketball Awards

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team held its annual awards banquet on Friday night. Cassie Hegbloom took home two awards as she was the big winner.
 
Hegbloom was named the Defensive Player of the Year and was awarded with the Coaches Award.   She was second on the team for the 2006-07 season with 150 rebounds (5.6 rpg), shared the team-lead with 12 blocks, had 12 steals and averaged 5.1 ppg.
 
Allison Carroll was named the MVP of the team. She led the team with 371 points (13.7 ppg), had 119 rebounds (4.4 rpg) and 28 steals. 
 
The Playmaker Award went to Kelsey Deacon as she had a team-leading 74 assists (2.7 apg). Freshman, Angie Leckson, from Garden, Mich. was named the Newcomer of the Year. She averaged 5.9 ppg and 4.1 rpg for the 2006-07 season.
 
Cassi Rushford who had a team-high 160 rebounds (5.9 rpg) for the past season took home the Top Rebounder Award. The Free Throw Award went to Maria Kasza as she was 24-27 from the charity stripe for .889 percent.
