MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team held its annual awards banquet on Friday night. Ricky Volcy was the big winner as he walked away with three awards.
Volcy led the 2006-07 Wildcats in points (22.5 ppg), rebounds (9.6 rpg), blocks (2.8 bpg) and steals (1.8 spg). He was named the MVP of the team, the top rebounder (279 rebounds) and was awarded with the Kip Taylor Courage and Leadership Award.
Will Washington took home two awards. He was named the Best Defender as he ended the season with eight blocks and 35 steals. Washington shared the Kip Taylor Courage and Leadership Award with Volcy.
Chris Warner who was 88-115 from the free throw line for .765 percent picked up the Best Free Throw Percent Award.
Freshman, Jerard Ajami, from Madison, Wis. was named the Newcomer of the Year. He appeared in 29 games and averaged 2.7 ppg and 1.3 rpg.
Coming off the bench to pick up the Sixth Man Award was Tyler Kazmierkoski. He averaged over seven points a game (7.3 ppg) and almost three rebounds a game (2.9 rpg).
