MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University head volleyball coach Dominic Yoder announces that Katie Twardzik from Laurium, Mich. has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for the Wildcats. She originally signed with Cameron University, but was given a release.
Yoder first noticed Twardzik when he was an assistant coach at Michigan Tech. “I first saw her when I went to local tournaments,” Yoder said. “The first thing that impresses me about Katie is her size and strength.” Twardzik has played in the middle, but is expected to play on the right side in college.
Twardzik (6-0) played her prep volleyball at Calumet High School. She lettered four times in volleyball, basketball and track. She was a three-time first-team all-conference selection for volleyball. Twardzik was a unanimous selection for conference MVP honors after her senior season. She was also selected to the all-region team for the 2006-07 season. Twardzik was a third-team selection for the Michigan Class C all-state team.
In the classroom, Twardzik carries a 4.009 grade point average.
