Erin Powers To Play College Basketball At NMU
MARQUETTE, Mich. – Troy Mattson the head women’s basketball coach at Northern Michigan University announces another addition to the team. Erin Powers from Marquette, Mich. and Marquette Senior High School has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend NMU and play basketball for the Wildcats. She is the fourth recruit to sign a letter. She joins incoming players Hillary Bowling, Kellie Rietveld and Steffani Stoeger.
“Erin will be an outstanding addition to our inside game,” Mattson said. “She does everything very well on the court and has a very high basketball I.Q.”
Powers (6-1) center was a three-time first-team All-Great Northern Conference selection as she led her team to an 18-3 record for the past season. After her senior season she was chosen the Great Northern Conference and Upper Peninsula Player of the Year. Powers was a Michigan Class A fourth-team all-state pick. She was also selected to the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) Class A all-state team as an honorable mention selection. Powers broke the school record for career rebounds with 789. During her senior campaign she averaged 11.6 ppg, 11.8 rpg, 2.1 apg and 1.7 bpg. Powers has been recognized for her academic achievements as she was named to the BCAM academic all-state team and is ranked in the top five percent in her class with a 4.05 GPA.
