MARQUETTE, Mich. – Everyone is welcome to attend a reception recognizing the Northern Michigan University cross country ski team. At the recently concluded NCAA Skiing Championships the NMU women took the top three places in the 5K freestyle and 15K classic races. It was the first time in NCAA history that skiers from the same school put together two sweeps at the same championship. Lindsey Weier, Lindsay Williams and Morgan Smyth were the Wildcats involved in the sweeps. On the men’s side, Martin Stuge Banerud was a two-time All-American. As a team the ‘Cats finished in eighth place with 380 points.
The reception will be held in the Wildcat Room at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17. NMU Athletic Director Ken Godfrey will make introductions and present the Athlete of the Year award. NMU coaches Sten Fjeldheim and Jenny Ryan will introduce the team and team members will make brief comments. A video of the races from nationals will be shown. There will be an opportunity to get autographs and visit with team members.
