Ricky Volcy Named Great Lakes Region Player of the Year
MARQUETTE, Mich. – Ricky Volcy has been named the 2006-07 Daktronics NCAA II Great Lakes Region Player of the Year. He is the lone holdover from last year’s all-region first team. Volcy received the most votes of any player in the region. Voting was conducted by sports information directors in the region. Everyone on the first team advances to the national ballot.
Joining Volcy on the all-region first team are guards Brandon Dagans of Lewis, Kris Krzyminski of Wayne State and Steven Wright of Northern Kentucky. The lone forward selected to the first team is Frank Phillips of Findlay. All the players on the all-region first team are seniors with the exception of Dagans, who is a sophomore.
Volcy, who averaged 22.5 ppg and 9.6 rpg, is the 2006-07 GLIAC Player of the Year. Four times this season he was honored as the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week. Volcy leads the GLIAC in rebounds and blocked shots (2.76) and is second in the conference in scoring and tied for fifth in steals (1.83). He’s third in career points (2,032) at NMU and fourth in career rebounds (864). He led the Wildcats (18-11) to a spot in the GLIAC Final Four.
