Martin Stuge Banerud Takes The 10K Freestyle

ISHPEMING, Mich. – Martin Stuge Banerud won the opening event of the NCAA Central Regional Championship for cross country skiing today at Al Quaal Recreational Area. The men competed in the 10K freestyle event on Saturday. 
 
Banerud covered the course in a time of 31:26.7 to win the event. NMU had three other skiers in the top seven. Bill Bowler (31:59.8) placed fourth as he was followed by teammates Phil Violett (32:01.9) in fifth and Justin Singleton (32:14.0) in seventh. Tim Cook skated in with a time of 33:25.7 which was good for 15th. Ben Cline was 21st with a time of 34:35.1.
 
Second day of the event will be tomorrow (Feb. 18) as the men will compete in the 15K classic.
