MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University Wildcats won their second straight game as they defeated the Mercyhurst Lakers, 80-64, tonight in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference women’s basketball action. The ‘Cats are now 8-14 overall and 4-9 in the GLIAC while the Lakers fell to 6-15 overall and 2-9 in the GLIAC. The ‘Cats will host the Gannon Knights on Saturday (Feb. 4) at 1:00 p.m. at the Berry Events Center.
The Wildcats opened the scoring on a lay-up by Allison Carroll and would go on to lead for the rest of the game. With 2:29 left in the second half Maria Kasza scored a lay-up thanks to a pass from Cassi Rushford to give the ‘Cats their largest lead of the night with the score at 75-56.
Kelsey Deacon and Allison Carroll led the ‘Cats with 19 points a piece while Maria Kasza added 14. Angie Leckson pulled down a team high seven rebounds for the ‘Cats. On the night the ‘Cats shot 55.0% from the field, 66.7% from three point range and 81.1% from the free throw line. The Lakers shot 34.5%, 33.3%, and 85.7% respectively.
