CABLE, Wis. – The men’s cross country ski team competed at the SuperTour event over the weekend which was held at the Telemark Resort in Cable, Wis. Saturday the team competed in the 9.6K freestyle and Sunday it was the 15K classic.
Martin Banerud led the ‘Cats on Saturday with a seventh-place finish (22:12.5). Bill Bowler (22:49.4) and Justin Singleton (22:56.2) were the next two NMU skiers to skate across the finish line in 12th and 13th respectively. Phil Violett placed 18th (23:21.9) as he was followed by Ben Cline in 22nd (23:35.2). Finishing in 30th place was Tim Cook (23:55.4).
Banerud led the ‘Cats on Sunday in the classic race as he finished in eighth (39:05.6). Bowler was next in 12th (39:32.2), then it was Violett 16th (39:57.8) and Singleton 17th (39:58.8). Cline skated in and placed 26th (40:44.0). Cook rounded out the NMU skiers in 39th (41:51.0).
In the overall two-day combined (men and women) CCSA point tally NMU had 370 points to claim first place. Alaska was second with 348 points.
The ‘Cats will race next at the CCSA Regional Champions which NMU will host at Al Quaal the weekend of Feb. 17-18.
