ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Mike Santorelli entered tonight’s game at the University of Michigan leading the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) in goals. He added to his lead as he scored both goals in the Wildcats 2-1 win over the Wolverines to earn a split in the series.
The ‘Cats improve to 9-14-2 overall and 6-11-1 in the CCHA. UM falls to 15-9-0 and 10-6-0 respectively. NMU has now won two of its past four games.
Santorelli gave the ‘Cats the 1-0 lead when he struck at 15:17 of the first period for his 19th of the season. Tim Hartung assisted on the goal. His second goal of the night, and 20th of the season, came at 11:03 of the second period. Hartung picked up his second assist on the night as Alan Dorich also assisted on the goal. For Santorelli it was his fourth game-winning goal on the season, which leads the team.
An extra-attacker goal by Andrew Cogliano with seven seconds left in the game put the Wolverines on the board. The goal ruined Bill Zaniboni’s chance for his sixth career shutout and third of the season. Zaniboni turned away 36 shots on the night. Billy Sauer for UM had 28 saves.
NMU had 30 shots for the game while the home team managed 37. The ‘Cats had four power-play opportunities while the Wolverines had seven.
The ‘Cats are back at home next weekend (Jan. 19-20) when the Falcons of Bowling Green State University will call on the Berry Events Center.
