Bouncing back from Wednesday’s loss to the Michigan Tech Huskies, the Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team defeated the Findlay Oilers 74-68 in GLIAC action on Saturday afternoon. The ‘Cats are now 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC. The Oilers fell to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the GLIAC.
Leading the ‘Cat were juniors Maria Kasza and Allison Carroll with 21 and 20 points, respectively. Cassie Hegbloom pulled down a game high 8 rebounds in her 32 minutes played. The ‘Cats shot 43% from the field and 41% from three-point range while holding the Oilers to 36% and 40%, respectively.
The Oilers opened the scoring as Audra Mihalic scored a pair of free-throws, but the ‘Cats went on to hold a ten point lead at half-time, 36-26. The Oilers came out strong in the second half and scored 7 points before the ‘Cats got things going again on a three-point play by freshman Angie Leckson. Leckson finished the game with three points and two rebounds in 13 minutes played.
The ‘Cats will be back in action on Thursday (Dec. 7) when they host the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals at the Berry Events Center at 5:30 p.m.
