The Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences Department offers numerous volunteer and academic-service learning opportunities, many of which qualify for Superior Edge credit. Superior Edge is a unique and innovative program offered at Northern Michigan University. By participating in a wide range of qualifying in- and out-of-the-classroom experiences, a student can earn the citizenship, diversity, leadership and/or real world edges. These experiences are recorded on a student enrichment transcript, which will impress future employers and graduate school admissions counselors.
Volunteer and summer therapy experiences are also available at Bay Cliff Health Camp for students in our department. The camp is a non-profit, non-denominational health camp for children and adults with physical, speech and hearing disabilities. It is located 25 miles northwest of Marquette on the shores of beautiful Lake Superior.
