Hello! My name is Kaytee (Alderton) Riley. I graduated from Northern in May 2009 and was filled with the all too familiar anxiety new graduates have with what’s next. I applied to what felt like countless agencies searching for a perfect fit. In the process, I learned to be patient and more importantly confident in the abilities and knowledge I had gained from my NMU experience. In September 2009, I was blessed with the opportunity to work for Bethany Christian Services as an Adoption Specialist. I relocated to the Kalamazoo area and began a nine-week training in Child Welfare to assist in preparing me to work in adoptions. In adoptions, I evaluate adoptive families, match children to appropriate families, and manage a caseload of 22 children. I love working in adoptions and getting to know the families that I serve, but I still ached to achieve more. It was easy for me to decide that continuing my education was imperative to my goals as a professional.
In the middle of planning my wedding, I started researching graduate schools. I looked for a school that would cater to my education goals and career aspirations. And so I applied to the University of Michigan as well as Michigan State. I’m pleased to pass along that the education I gained from Northern stood high in the eyes of admissions at both State and Michigan.
It's not all hard work

I have decided to continue my education at the University of Michigan with aspirations to become licensed as a Clinical Social Worker. I will begin this fall in the Advanced Standing MSW program. Additionally, Bethany Christian Services has provided me with the opportunity to continue serving families as an Adoption Specialist part-time.
So, there you have it. That is what this NMU alumnus is up to. I encourage you all to check out Bethany Christian Services for more information and career opportunities!
