New Faculty Members

The Sociology and Anthropology Department is proud to announce the addition of two new Assistant Professors. Dr. Yan Ciupak and Dr. Guðmundur "Gummi" Oddsson are officially a part of the Sociology and Anthropology team and will begin teaching classes in the Fall. We're excited to have them with us!

Dr. Alex Ruuska, cultural anthropologist has been awarded tenure and promotion to Associate Professor. In addition to teaching, Dr. Ruuska has contributed to revitalizing the anthropology program at NMU and maintains an active research agenda.

Archeology Summer Field School

AN 355: Summer Field School is in session!

From May 18th to June 14th, archaeologist and professor Dr. Scott Demel will be leading students in excavating a multi-component site on Beaver Island, MI. With hands-on experience, students will gain valuable archaeology skills as well as academic credits. Stay tuned for updates and photos of our favorite archaeologists!
