Alumni & Friends

It’s always great to hear from our alumni! Whether it’s an idea for improving our programs, a story about your personal challenges and achievements since leaving NMU or a job lead for an up-coming grad, we’d love to hear from you. Send us your stories, questions, ideas and photos  to sosw@nmu.edu. You can keep in touch with your former professors, too; their contact information can be found on the faculty directory page. As NMU and the Sociology and Anthropology Department strive for continuous improvement, we’d be very interested in your recommendations for improving our program for future students.

We strongly encourage you to keep your alumni information up-to-date so we can let you know about what’s happening at NMU. The alumni Web site has an online update form for your convenience.  Did you know that you can earmark donations to the NMU Foundation specifically to the Sociology or Anthropology Department? Alumni like you have helped us to develop state-of-the-art practice skills labs for our programs and have enriched the experience of students by defraying their expenses for participation at state and national conferences. These are just a couple of ways that your contributions help keep our programs strong.

Alumni in Action

Are there jobs in this field?  What’s it really like to work with a sociology or anthropology degree? What can I expect by way of salary and benefits? These are common questions that we hear from current and prospective students. Although you will find many answers to these questions in the Student Resources section of this website, there's nothing like hearing from graduates themselves and learning from their experiences.  So, instead of just giving you the official facts,  we’ve been asking alumni to tell you about their experiences in their own words.  Here are the stories submitted by some of our most recent graduates. More will be added as they become available.  So, if you are a graduate of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology yourself and would like to share your story, please e-mail the Department at sosw@nmu.edu.
