Northern's campus stretches all the way to the sandy shores of the spectacular Lake Superior. Along these 83 miles of shoreline, our students surf, study, swim and explore.
Forging New Paths.
Our undergraduates have discovered new species, searched for cures to brain tumors, co-authored textbooks and presented their work at international conferences.
Here, the opportunities for students to do meaningful research and be a part of impactful work is unparalleled.
Northern offers the best of both worlds: a friendly, small-town feel plus all of the activities you would find at a big school. NCAA Division I and II sports, 300+ student organizations, concerts by big-name acts and impromptu dorm-room gaming marathons are just a handful of the experiences students get at NMU.
NMU is an innovator when it comes to technology. We have our own LTE network, provide each student with a laptop, and have been visited by President Obama in recognition for our efforts in the field.
Adventure Upon Admission.
Northern students don’t fit a mold. Each student is unique, embracing adventure and discovery in and out of the classroom. Whether they’re biking to campus, snowboarding between classes, or catching the dogsled races downtown, Northern offers a lifestyle unlike anywhere else.
