Senior Citizens

Alger Marquette Community Action Board (AMCAB): AMCAB is a local community action agency that provides an array of services, including community nutrition services. These services include commodity foods, meals on wheels and congregate senior dining. Volunteers are needed to host congregate meal sites from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at various sites in Marquette, Negaunee, Ishpeming, and beyond. D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans: This is a long-term health care facility for veterans. Volunteers are needed to help with transportation, bingo and other activities, and to visit veterans. Eastwood Nursing Center: Volunteers are needed to help with games, provide instrumental or vocal talents, help with parties, help in making and putting up decorations, accompany field trips, help prepare for holidays, read to residents, teach painting, assist residents with arts and crafts, provide a friendly visit, write letters for residents and more.  Please call Rose or Amy at the center at 906.475.7500 for more information.

Forsyth Senior Center: The Forsyth Senior Center is a place for seniors to congregate for senior meals, health education, socialization, and for senior services offered. Their mission is to secure and insure the independence and dignity of the older adult population. Volunteers are needed for friendly visits to homebound seniors, intergenerational activities and planning of events, office assistance, and future nurses may want to volunteer to take blood pressures for seniors. Greater Ishpeming Commission on Aging: Volunteers are needed to assist with center socials in the way of set-up, serving, and clean-up. Persons are also needed for individual patients in-home visits, yard work, snow shoveling, friendly visitors, etc. Contact Elyse Bertucci at 906.485.5527 for more information.

Marquette Adult Day Services: MADS specializes in programming for adults with Alzheimer's and related dementias who seek increased activity and socialization. Volunteers are needed to assist with arts and crafts, share musical or artistic ability, read to the group, and contribute any other specialized skills or activities appropriate for seniors. Marquette County Medical Care Facility: Marquette County Medical Care Facility is a long-term care/ skilled nursing facility with 140 residents. Located in Ishpeming, a variety of volunteer opportunities are available, including: reading and visiting, teaching your special skill to others (music, gardening, arts, crocheting, etc.), writing letters for residents, playing games, offering manicures, wheelchair rides, assisting with outings/ parties/ special events, assisting residents to and from activities, taking residents outdoors, offering religious services, and more. Mather Nursing Center: This is a skilled nursing facility that provides 24-hour nursing care along with on-site rehabilitation, social services, activities, and dietary services. Volunteers are needed for one-on-one visiting with residents, providing music, playing games, reading to residents, assisting with parties, special events, assisting with outings, and providing manicures. Norlite Nursing Home: Norlite Nursing Center is a licensed skilled nursing home. We believe our first responsibility is to our residents. We are dedicated to provide the highest professional care in a home-like and loving environment. We believe we are responsible to the communities we serve. We accept our role in enhancing the quality of life by supporting civic pride, economic development, better health and education, and protection of the environment. Duties for volunteers include help with bingo, art projects, games, movie nights, socializing, community outings, men's group, parties, entertainment, or your own idea! Volunteers are needed seven days a week, and numerous times are available. Residents enjoy being entertained; Norlite is always looking for individuals or groups that enjoy doing music performances, fine art performances, and/or educational lecture that involve participation from residents. Negaunee Senior Center: The center provides in-home services to seniors as well as a variety of recreational activities at the center. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. to work with social work, office work, kitchen help, etc. Computer skills are a plus! Retired and Senior Volunteer Program: RSVP provides opportunities for those 55 and better to serve at more than 70 volunteer locations throughout the county. The interests and skills of volunteers are matched with needs in the non-profit community, health care facilities, and schools.
