UPSDA - UP200: The UPSDA puts on the UP200 Sled Dog Race, a 220 mile race, as well as Midnight Run, a 90 mile race. They need 600+ volunteers for inside and outside work, including road crossing duties, retail, vet check, dog handling, checkpoint workers, set-up, take-down, and crowd control. Check out the website at UP200.org for more information.  This is a great way to increase community involvement. To volunteer, contact Pat Torreano at 906.228.3072 or by email at forsberg@chartermi.net.

Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter: UPAWS is an animal welfare shelter seeking to improve the quality of life and welfare for domestic animals and to provide a safe haven while finding lifelong homes for the animals in our care. We also provide many animal related services to the community.Volunteers are needed 7 days a week at UPAWS! We have a wide variety of opportunities available, from direct care for the animals, to behind the scenes office work, to fundraising and helping with adoption events! We ask that in-shelter volunteers commit to a time and day that they can come each week and be able to fulfill this commitment for a minimum of six months.

Dates and times: 7 days a week 8:30am-4pm with evening hours on Thursdays until 6:30pm.
