The Janzen House is a homeless shelter/low-income living house, which can house up to 32 residents. Volunteers are needed to help paint, with meals, or clean and possibly with some office work. Marquette County Habitat for Humanity:
Habitat is a non-profit ecumenical housing ministry building safe, decent, affordable homes with low-income families in Marquette County. V olunteers may work at the construction site building homes or at the ReStore with sales, cleaning, stocking shelves and merchandise preparation. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. or on Saturdays from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Signed volunteer applications and waivers of liability are required. The MSU Extension health and nutrition educator can use volunteers to help with updating nutrition and fitness education activities and materials, assist with cooking demonstrations and in classes with youth and/or adults, and occasional health fairs. Planned Parenthood of Michigan/Marquette Health Center is looking for volunteers to help with information tables, peer education, promotion and/or mailings, flyers and information packets. Planned Parenthood offers low cost, confidential, quality health care for women and men, including birth control, STI testing, rapid HIV screening, pap and breast exams, pregnancy testing and pregnancy option counseling.
