The NMU Sailing Club puts Northern Michigan's largest natural resource to good use. Based out of Lower Harbor, the Sailing Club sets sail on Lake Superior in both the fall and spring seasons. The racing members compete at regattas across the Midwest under the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association (MCSA) a regional denomination of the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA). The team welcomes students who have no sailing experience, but would like to learn! "Recreational Member" status is available for those who don't yet feel comfortable racing.
Dues vary each year, but generally range from $70-$80. These costs cover Marquette Yacht Club membership, regatta fees, boat maintenance, MCSA dues and dock usage. If you only want to attend practice and not regattas, this fee will be lowered. Members are also required to purchase a PEIF pass for the year.
Participants Must Supply:
Nothing! All gear (PFD, drysuit) is supplied by the club.
Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, and Iowa.
TBD. Attendance is highly encouraged! The only way to become a better sailor is through practice. The fall season begins with the start of the school year and ends around October when the temperatures hit freezing. Practice resumes in the spring, as soon as the ice breaks.
