How to Request a Transcript
NMU has partnered with the National Student Clearinghouse to provide official transcript ordering online. Students can order transcripts online anytime using a major credit card. One advantage of the online service is receiving e-mail notifications on the status of the request. Another advantage is the speed in which transcripts are delivered.
Rush/One-Day-Service is available but your request must be received prior to 11 a.m. EST, in order to get the transcript out in the same day mail. See Fees and Processing Time link on the left for more information. If you have a financial or mobile device hold, your transcripts cannot be released. And, transcripts cannot be requested by e-mail or from friends and family.

Log into the NCS secure site. The National Student Clearinghouse site will walk you through placing your order, including delivery options and fees. You can order as many transcripts as you like in a single session. Each address must be submitted as a separate request. Order status and updates will be emailed to you. You can also track your order online. Note: You will be required to sign a release online during the process using a computer mouse. At this time, the signature feature does not work using a smart phone or a tablet. If you fail to submit your signature online, you will receive an email notification and be required to download the signature form that you must fax to NSC before your order is processed. Also, if you are experiencing technical difficulties with viewing or submitting transcript order information on the NSC site, sometimes using a different web browser will solve the problem [i.e. use Chrome, FireFox, etc. instead of Explorer].
Currently Enrolled Students
To order an official transcript(s), log into my.nmu. Click on the Student Services tab, then the “Order/Track Transcript” link. Once you are at the National Student Clearinghouse web site, select the “transcript ordering/tracking” link.
Transferring to Another University or College?
If you are sending your transcript to another college, please specify where at the college that you want your transcript delivered to in the address you provide. If you enrolled/pre-enrolled for the fall/winter semester at NMU, those courses will appear on your transcript. You will be required to provide another transcript to your new school once those courses are completed or dropped.
Can I order that my transcript request be held for semester grades or until my degree is posted?
Degrees do not post to transcripts automatically. Degree posting requires a verification process that normally takes extra time after grades are posted to appear on a transcript. When you request a transcript, you may request one of the following:
- Mail transcript now
- Mail after current semester grades are posted
- Mail after degree is posted
If mail after current semester grades is selected, your transcript will be held until the semester grades are recorded on the transcript. Transcripts are usually mailed the following Friday after exam week. If the mail after degree is posted is marked, your transcript will not be sent until your degree date is posted to your transcript. Degree posting generally takes several weeks after the semester ends, as a final degree granting audit is required for each student. But, students who submit a transcript request prior to the end of the semester and request mail after degree posted will usually have their degree audit and posting prioritized.
Order by Mail on Paper
If you prefer to use a paper form and order by mail, click on the Request Forms link on the right side of this page. Because mailing a form is dependent on snail mail delivery, please consider using the online option if time is a factor. Print a transcript request form and mail to the Registrar's Office. If you include pre-addressed mailing labels, your transcript request may be processed a little quicker. If you need your transcript quickly, don't mail it - use the online service mentioned above.
All paper requests must include: name, NMU IN (or S.S.# for non-students), signature, transcript fee and the exact address where the transcript is to be sent. Each official transcript is requested by mail is $5 per copy. First class postage is included in the transcript fee. A check or money order made out to NMU must be included with all requests received by mail. You can also drop off the form at the Student Service Center. Transcript requests that do not include correct fees will not be processed and returned to sender.
Transcripts cannot be requested by phone, e-mail, from friends, your spouse or relatives in accordance with The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. There are no exceptions to this policy.
If you are currently living outside the United States, stationed abroad in the military, or if you have an emergency situation, please use the online site to request your transcript.
Because of personal security and other concerns, NMU cannot e-mail, scan or fax transcripts.

Unofficial transcripts are $2 per copy. Current students can view their unofficial transcript at mynmu.nmu.edu. Former students can request an unofficial transcript by filling out the unofficial transcript request form and sending it to NMU with a check. Unofficial transcripts cannot be requested online through the National Student Clearinghouse. Unofficial transcripts are printed on plain white paper and are a basic print-out of courses and grades designated for student use only. NMU does not issue unofficial transcripts to third parties and will only be sent to the student's address.You cannot use an unofficial for transfer purposes. It simply will not be accepted. If you need a transcript immediately, or for some other "emergency" reason, request an official transcript and use the RUSH service option. NMU cannot e-mail or fax unofficial transcripts. NMU does not accept unofficial requests by fax.
Current Students - Access their unofficial transcript by going to mynmu.nmu.edu and entering their NMU (e-mail) user ID and password.
Former Students - Fill out the unofficial transcript request form and send it to NMU [address is on form] with a check, or drop off form at the Student Service Center for processing.

NOTE: This service is only available to students who first enrolled at NMU Fall 1993 or later. Any student with attendance dates prior to Fall 1993 can only receive a paper copy.

Requested Electronically and Rush Service - Delivered by Mail or Office Pickup - $22.25
Processed within 24 business hours. Order must be received prior to 11 a.m. EST in order to go out in the same day's mail by first class postage.

Usually processed while you wait or same day service.
