Directed Studies at NMU

Directed study are courses that are created to meet the needs of individuals who want to study topics outside the normal scope of courses offered. The topics are assigned and approved by the individual academic departments on campus.

For information on directed studies available, contact your advisor in the department under whose supervision the directed study will be offered to obtain course information.

 
How to Register for a Directed Study Course
  1. To register for a directed study, contact your advisor in the department under whose supervision the directed study will be offered to obtain the correct course information.

  2. The course instructor will complete an Approval for Directed Study Form (PDF)  and leave it with the department secretary. The form must be approved and signed by the instructor, department head and appropriate dean.

  3. The directed study will be added to the student's class schedule once the Registrar's Office receives the completed form with all the proper signatures.
