What was your favorite memory of being at NMU?
My favorite memory of Northern Michigan is the outdoors. My fishing spots, the lake and the beach.
What is your favorite memory of being in the wrestling program?
My favorite part of being in the wrestling program is just seeing the success that some of my longtime friends, coaches and teammates are having today, such as Coach Ivan and Jim in their new ventures and all of my friends who reached their goals of being in the Olympics and World Championships. Also, what some of my former teammates are doing off the mat, we have lawyers, doctors, physical therapists. It was such a successful adventure and choice for me, all my memories are positive ones.
What advice would you give a freshman athlete entering the NMU Olympic Training Site program?
If I were to give advice to incoming freshmen, I would have a lot to tell them. Take advantage of every training opportunity you can, whether it be at NMU or a trip nationally or internationally. Also, be disciplined with your academics. Come to school with a plan and a back-up plan. Earn your degree with the grades you need to possibly advance into graduate school. Socially, get out and find out what Marquette has to offer. The city has a ton of good eateries and other local businesses that you will miss once you leave Marquette.
What have you been up to since leaving NMU?
In 2010 I left Marquette to continue to wrestle. I moved to Boise, Idaho and Colorado Springs, Colo. I retired competitively from the sport in 2011 and returned home to Pittsburgh, Pa. I was the head coach for a local high school, and then moved to Clarion University to become the Graduate Assistant for the wrestling team and earn my masters in Mass Media and Journalism also gaining a Public Relations Certificate. I will finish up my last semester in that program online while living in Arkansas.
