After a successful showing at the Olympic Trials, twelve USOEC alumni competed in the 2012 London Olympic Games this past July and August.

Here are some highlights of the rest of the 2012 Fall Semester

Greco-Roman wrestlers earned four out of seven spots on the University World Team at the University World Team Trials in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Aug. 19

John Bozarth, Lee Wildes, Jason Chudzinski and Austin Barton traveled to Panama City, Panama, to compete in the Edward Campbell International Cup.

Bozarth, who pinned all five opponents, earned gold in the 66-kilogram weight class. Lee Wildes ended the trip with a silver medal at 84 kg and Chudzinski and Barton both earned bronze at 60 kg and 74 kg respectively.

The USOEC hosted the Upper Peninsula Weightlifting Championships, eight athletes lifted personal records. Vanessa McCoy and John McGovern took home the best female and male lifter awards.

Sept. 29

Oct. 27

 Eight Greco-Roman wrestlers gained their first international experience at the Lila Malar Cup in Stockholm. Ramon Romeno earned silver at 55 kg and Mike Mioni earned silver at 60 kg.

Nov. 7

Greco-Roman wrestlers win medals at the NYAC International. Max Nowry earned a silver and Dmitry Ryabchinskiy a bronze at 55 kg. Marcus Finau won silver at 96 kg and Parker Betts took bronze at 120 kg.

Nov. 10

Fifteen Greco-Roman wrestlers earned top 10 status in the national rankings by, the official website of USA Wrestling.


Nov. 30

Weightlifters Vanessa McCoy and Ryan Borges earned medals at the American Open Weightlifting Championships in Palm Springs, Calif. McCoy earned gold, Borges a bronze.

Dec. 4

Mkkhitar Manukyan, a 2004 Olympic bronze medalist in Greco-Roman wrestling, was a guest at the USOEC through Dec. 14. The two-time world champion, who competed for Kazakhstan in the 66-kilogram weight class, was a guest coach during his stay.

Dec. 6

Brothers Corey and Ryan Hope received their diplomas during Northern Michigan University’s commencement ceremony.

Greco-Roman wrestlers had a strong showing at the Minnesota Storm Holiday Cup in Rochester, Minn., with two athletes taking home top honors and 10 others placing in the top four. Kendrick Sanders earned outstanding wreslter in the event and a gold at 66 kg and Jessy Williams won gold at 60 kg.
