MARQUETTE, Mich. —Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site Greco-Roman wrestler Randon Miranda was named Outstanding Wrestler at the Bill Farrell International, held at the New York Athletic Club in New York City this weekend.
Miranda, of Palmdale, Calif., won a four-athlete round robin to earn his gold, finishing 3-0 at 60 kg. Miranda scored two technical falls before meeting teammate Dalton Roberts in the third match, winning 6-5. Roberts finished the event in second with Mason Hartshorn, also of the NMU-OTS, placing third.
Placing second for the NMU team at 77 kg was Jesse Porter of Albany, N.Y. Porter outscored his opponents 24-1 on his way to the gold-medal match. Porter opened the final match with a four-point throw against Kamal Bay of Sunkist Kids, but ultimately lost the match by technical fall 4-13.
Placing third for the NMU squad was Kendrick Sanders of Homestead, Fla., at 77 kg. Sanders faced John Yeats of Tristar Wrestling Academy in the bronze-medal match. He defeated Yeats by pin.
