MARQUETTE, Mich.—United States Olympic Training Site Greco-Roman wrestler Austin Morrow has been selected as the NMU Scholar Athlete for the month of January.
Morrow, a native of Wenatchee, Wash., is a secondary special education cognitive impairment major and pursuing a minor in secondary English. He was nominated for the honor by NMU professor Laura Reissner.
"Austin traveled overseas several times last year during the academic semester to wrestle, and medaled twice,” Reissner said. “Those semesters and this one, he always has his work done before the trips or he is sending me work from his hotel room overseas.”
Morrow also was nominated for his volunteer work.
“When he is in Marquette he spends extra time volunteering in one of the local elementary special education classes,” Reissner added. “A one-time class requirement became a semester-long, weekly volunteer event. His attitude with the students is the same as for himself: push yourself hard, learn more, smile, look for support where you need it and try your best.”
Morrow is a senior at NMU and finished last semester with a 3.89 GPA, earning himself a spot on the Dean’s List for the eighth time.
