Marquette, Mich. — Momir Petkovic, a 1976 Olympic gold medalist, will visit Northern Michigan University Dec. 16-21. The two-time Olympian and four-time World medalist currently serves as the assistant National Greco-Roman coach for USA Wrestling.
Along with NMU-OTS coaches Rob Hermann and Andy Bisek, Petkovic will lead the NMU team through a week of intense training leading into the break between semesters.
“It will be great to have Momir in our room to get to know the guys,” said Hermann. “We look forward to having him work hands-on with the team throughout the week.”
Austin Morrow, an NMU senior from Wenatchee, Wash., had the opportunity to work with coach Petkovic in December during a camp and competition in Budapest, Hungary.
“It is great for our program that he is coming to share his knowledge,” Morrow said. “Coach Petkovic has a lot of wrestling knowledge. He has a good eye for catching even subtle mistakes.”
The NMU-OTS squad members will next compete in in Denmark and Austria in February. Their next domestic competition will be the Bill Farrell Memorial International Open March 30-31 in New York.
