MARQUETTE, Mich.—Members of USA Wrestling’s Cadet World Team are at Northern Michigan University through Friday, Aug. 16 training under United States Olympic Education Center head coach Rob Hermann, who will serve as the squad’scoach at the Cadet World Championships in Zrenjanin, Serbia next Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 20-21.
“Bringing the team to NMU was important to us,” said Hermann. “These are the top guys in their age group in the country and we wanted to give them a look at NMU and our program.”
The team is comprised of athletes 15-17 years of age. The athletes earned a spot on the team by winning the FILA Cadet Nationals in May in Akron, Ohio.
Kyle Norstrem of Brandon, Fla., will be making his second appearance in the World Championships. Norstrem, who went 1-1 last year, is hoping to medal this time around.
“Camp is going great,” said Norstrem. “I’m working on technique and am looking to get on the podium. The university is a perfect place to train.”
