MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site wrestlers defeated the All-Navy team nine matches to three Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Westwood High School. The dual event that featured Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling.
Winning matches for the NMU-OTS in Greco-Roman were Brandon Rice of Washington, Ill., at 66 kilograms; Trasher Porcher of Chuluota, Fla., at 66 kg.; Nick Alvarez of Miami, Fla., at 71 kg.; Josh Greer of Birmingham, Ala., at 80 kg.; Lee Wildes of Oviedo, Fla., at 85 kg.; and Khymba Johnson of Sacramento, Calif., at 98 kg.
Winning matches for the OTS in Freestyle competition were Sammy Jones of Folsom, La., at 61 kg.; Rice at 70 kg.; and Sergio Guerrero of Rubidoux, Calif. at 74 kg.
The All-Navy team, which only wrestles part-time on top of its military duty, came to Marquette to train with the OTS athletes for several weeks in preparation for the Armed Forces Championships in mid-March.
OTS wrestlers only train for Greco-Roman competition but agreed to incorporate Freestyle into the event because the All-Navy team will wrestle both styles at the Armed Forces Championship.
