MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team returns home on Saturday (Feb. 2) to face Michigan Technological University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from the Berry Events Center.
Northern is 4-14 overall and 3-11 in the GLIAC. The Wildcats had a pair of losses at Lake Superior State and at Northwood last weekend.
Junior forward Matthew Craggs averages 14.3 points a game for NMU, and sophomore forward Kendall Jackson leads the rebound column with a 6.2 average. Seven players average better than seven points per game.
MTU (13-5, 10-4 GLIAC) is currently on a three-game winning streak after wins at LSSU and Northwood and sits in third place in the North Division of the GLIAC. The Huskies were victorious over the Timberwolves 79-65 on Thursday and then received an 83-79 overtime win over the Lakers on Saturday.
Ali Haidar leads the Huskies—and GLIAC—in points (25.1) and rebounds (9.6) per game. His 25.1 average is fourth in the nation. Austin Armga (14.0) and Ben Stelzer (10.8) also average in the double digits.
NMU leads the all-time series against MTU, 130-70. The Wildcats have dropped four out of the last five meetings, including twice last season. The last win for NMU against its U.P.-rival was during the 2009-10 season.
100.3 FM “The Point”, the official radio voice of the NMU Wildcats, will broadcast the game.
Northern will face off against the Huskies again on March 2 in Houghton, Mich. to finish out the season.
