COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team earned its third straight victory on Sunday evening with a 54-46 victory over Ohio Dominican University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup. NMU improves to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the GLIAC on the season, while ODU moves to 3-6 and 0-6.

The first half of play was a back and forth battle with six lead changes and five ties. The point margin wasn’t more than five for the entire half. The ‘Cats were able to sneak away with the advantage at the half, 25-20.

The second half was led by NMU, from start to finish. Sophomore guard Alyssa Colla opened the half with a two-point jumper to extend the lead to 27-20. NMU went up by as much as 18 points with six minutes to go in the game, and the Panthers were only able to come within eight points.

Sophomore guard Lauren Gruber led the ‘Cats with 15 points on one three-pointer, five fields goals and one free throw. Colla tallied 12 points, while sophomore forward Abbey DeBruin finished with 11. On the boards, junior center Annie Rubendunst, freshman guard Anna Liewen and DeBruin each had seven.

The ‘Cats ended the night out rebounding the Panthers, 39-31, and committed 11 turnovers to ODU’s 18. NMU shot 20-for-55 and were 9-for-22 from the charity stripe.

The Panthers were led by Kacee Hockenberry with 13 points on five fields and one three-pointer. Katelyn Stuckey added 10 points.

NMU continues its play in Ohio on Tuesday (Dec. 18) against Tiffin University at 8 p.m.
