MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team fell to Lincoln University, 67-56 in the Fresh Coast Classic on Saturday (Nov. 24) in Milwaukee, Wis.
NMU and Lincoln battled back and forth for the entire first half, until the Tigers took a seven-point lead with six minutes to go in the half, and would continue to keep the lead. Lincoln’s highest point margin was by ten, and went into halftime with the 28-19 lead.
In the second half of play, NMU was able to get within one point, and tied the game with two minutes to go in the game. However, the ‘Cats weren’t able to pull ahead, and it was all Lincoln for the remaining minutes of the game.
Northern (1-2) had three players in the double digits, led by redshirt freshman guard Terry Nash (12) while junior forward Matthew Craggs (11) and senior forward TJ Cameron (10) were also in double figures. Junior forward Scooter Johnson led the board battle with eight rebounds. NMU shot 24-of-58 and were 6-of-13 from the charity stripe.
Lincoln (3-1) was led by Kenny Sharpe who had a game-high 20 points on five field goals, one three pointer and was 7-of-7 from the free throw line. George Jackson (13), Will Cole (10) and Derrick Washington (10) rounded out the double digits. Lincoln had 19 turnovers to NMU’s 20.
NMU hits the road next weekend to open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play in Canton, Ohio. The ‘Cats will face Walsh University on Thursday (Nov. 29) and 6 p.m. and Malone University at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 1).
