MARQUETTE– United States Olympic Education Center Greco-Roman wrestler Aaron Briggs (Tucson, Ariz.) went undefeated in the Kiki Cup Jan. 29 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Briggs, a Northern Michigan University junior, wrestled athletes from Bulgaria, Poland, Sweden and Japan, finishing 4-0 at 74 kilograms.
Senior Ben Sanchez (Leominster, Mass.) finished 3-1 at 66 kg and facility-use athlete Pete Gounaridis (Leominster, Mass.) 2-2 at 96/120 kg. Freshman Aaron Runzo (Virginia Beach, Va.) and junior Zac Nielson (Zimmerman, Minn.) both finished 0-4 at 55 kg and 96/120 kg, respectively.
“We wrestled hard and competed up a weight class at times, but there is still work to do,” said coach Rob Hermann. “This was a valuable experience because we were definitely the youngest team. We’re going to get right back on the mat to correct mistakes and prepare for the Dave Shultz competition.”
USOEC wrestlers will compete in the Dave Schultz Memorial International Feb. 2-4 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
