The members of NMU student organizations sponsor almost 300 campus-wide programs and events every year in addition to the hundreds of group activities. These same students volunteer thousands of hours of service annually to local communities. In the process, the student organizations that register at Northern Michigan University every year provide thousands of students with fun, friendships, memories, and educational experiences that cannot be found in the classroom.

Student Organization: Mortar Board
|Description||Mortar Board, Pi Sigma Alpha, is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for distinguished ability and achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service. Members are provided opportunities for continued leadership development and to promote service to the campus and the surrounding community. Mortar Board facilitates cooperation among the national honor societies, to contribute to the self-awareness of its members, to promote equal opportunities among all peoples, to emphasize the advancement of the status of women, to support the ideas of the college or university, to advance a spirit of scholarship, to recognize and encourage leadership, to provide service, and to establish the opportunity for a meaningful exchange of ideas as individuals and as a group.
