Current Organizations

Students for Sustainable LivingThe members of NMU student organizations sponsor almost 300 campus-wide programs and events every year in addition to the hundreds of group activities. These same students volunteer thousands of hours of service annually to local communities. In the process, the student organizations that register at Northern Michigan University every year provide thousands of students with fun, friendships, memories, and educational experiences that cannot be found in the classroom.

Efforts put forth by student organizations are recognized annually at the Leadership Recognition Banquet.

Student Organization: EEGS Garden Club

Description EEGS (Earth, Environmental & Geographical Sciences) Garden Club's major project this year will focus on the implementation and maintenance of a student-run community garden, Superior Acre Permaculture. By maintaining this site on NMU's campus, students will have access to a high quality educational setting to explore sustainable land use, nutrition centered on native foods, and community centered agriculture. The Superior Acre Permaculture (SAP) garden aims to create an educational opportunity for students and community members by by building an active learning outdoor classroom. SAP is available to every gardener, community member and student, regardless of experience. You can come to learn or you can come to educate. Email hpoisson@nmu.edu for more information.
