Student Organization: Social Work Education Enrichment Team (SWEET)

Description The Social Work Education Enrichment Team (SWEET) is a student organization that focuses on professional development, advocacy issues, and engagement with the professional social work community. At meetings we inform members about professionally relevant volunteer opportunities in the community. This way students can explore different areas of social work and start gaining real experience. SWEET sponsors workshops such as licensing, social action, ethics, and career exploration nights, where professionals from different areas of social work come in and talk about what it is they do. You don't have to be a member to attend workshops or events, but members get the opportunity to organize and can add the experience to their resumes. SWEET and members raise money so we can send students to professional conferences, which are really incredible opportunities. At SWEET meetings we choose an Advocacy Isssue of the Month. To raise awareness of social problems, we have monthly events like "call-a-thons" in the academic mall, and engage in social activism to create positive social change. SWEET is a really great way to gain experience, get involved, and grow a future in social work. It is also a great way to meet other social work majors and make some friends.
