The Northern Michigan Constructors (NMC) is a student organization affiliated with the Construction Management curriculum. This student-led chapter utilizes their estimating, planning, building, leadership and communication skills to develop and maintain community partnerships while striving to create a positive impact with each project. The Constructers focus the majority of their efforts on construction related community service projects throughout the Marquette area and were recently awarded the 2010 Community Service Award. The NMC contributed over 1800 hours of service throughout the 2009-2010 school year to earn this award. The majority of our club members are Construction Management and Building Technology majors, but membership is open to all NMU students. The NMC maintains student chapters of both the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), as well as the local Upper Peninsula Builders Association (UPBA). These affiliations provide several professional development and job opportunities for members. The Constructors host several social events throughout the year including barbecues, a mid-winter ice fishing tournament, an end-of-the-year softball game, and various service trips in and out of state. The Club offers educational classes and certification opportunities, coordinates resume writing and editing sessions and assists members with finding summer jobs and internships. NMC also organizes a curriculum wide career fair every year and will be implementing a peer to peer program this fall.
