High School Preparation Recommendations

Nurses, in their practices, are required to make many critical and life-saving decisions and to perform many important and precise technical functions. In order to carry out these functions, a nurse must have a solid academic foundation at the high school level. Therefore, the faculty of the School of Nursing strongly recommend the following academic preparation in high school:

Algebra 2 years
Chemistry 1 year

Students without the necessary high school preparation in algebra and chemistry may need to take additional preparatory courses in these subjects in order to be successful in the required nursing courses.

In addition, the following high school courses are highly recommended:

English 4 years
Science:
    Biology 1 year
    Physics 1 year
Social Studies 4 years
Mathematics 3-4 years
