Fall 2014: King Arthur in France

LG317: King Arthur in France
Fall 2014, MW 4-5:40pm
Dr. Tara Foster

How well do you know the origins of King Arthur and his "silly English kuh-niggits?" Did you know that many of the early texts written about this quintessential English hero were composed in French? We will study the legend of the king and his Knights of the Round Table, the affair between Lancelot and Guinevere, the Quest for the Holy Grail, and the destruction of Arthurís realm as the tales were depicted in a variety of French texts from the Middle Ages and beyond. All texts will be read in English, and we will also watch some film adaptations of the medieval legends.

Course meets both Division 2 (Humanities) requirements and upper-division liberal studies requirements.
