Online Summer Course: French Fairy Tales

LG317: French Fairy Tales
Summer 2013, Session II
July 1-August 10

Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Bluebeard, Puss in Boots, Rapunzel: these are some of the classic fairy tales that we will study in this course, and you might be surprised at how the French versions of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries differ from the versions that you know from your childhood or through Disney films. We will explore the French fairy tale tradition and the function of these texts in society.
All texts will be read in English; no
knowledge of French is required for any assignments.

This ONLINE course meets both Division 2 (Humanities) requirements and upper-division liberal studies requirements.

**If you have any interest in the class and think you might want to take it, donít wait to sign up! Summer courses, even those in Session II, could be cancelled as early as Friday 12 April!**
