Native Americans in the Loggin History of the U.P.

October 4th at 7:00pm in the Pioneer A Room of the University Center

Visiting scholar, Eric Drake has been a friend to the Anthropology Department here at NMU for several years, offering internship positions to NMU students with the Hiawatha National Forest Service where he works as a professional Archaeologist. Drake will be presenting on October 4th at 7:00pm in the Pioneer A Room in the University Center. His presentation will focus on the Indian experience with the logging industry and how the practice of historical archaeology can help challenge narratives about Native people as passive victims of Euro-American expansionism and assimilation programs, or worse . . .! Drake is currently writing his dissertation on the archaeological research he and his interns have done on historic logging camps in the Upper Peninsula.
