CROP Walk

The community is invited to participate in the 2012 CROP Walk. This event, sponsored by the Northern Great Lakes Synod, Why Not Marketing, Lutheran Campus Ministry, Bell Hospital, Yooper T shirts, The Eagle Point Radio Group, and the Central UP Chapter of Thrivent Caring Communities program, begins at Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming on Sunday, October 7, 2012 with registration beginning at 1:30 p.m. The trail route will take walkers joggers, strollers and hikers down the Heritage Trail toward Negaunee and back.
CROP Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local volunteers to raise funds to end hunger at home and around the world. Last year, 192 walkers, from twenty organizations, raised a total of $8400 in Marquette County.

This year community members throughout Marquette County and some 2,000 cities and towns nationwide are raising money and joining together in interfaith community CROP Hunger Walks around the theme "Ending hunger one step at a time." Locally, these monies will be donated to Feeding America directly to support the Salvation Army and the St. Vincent DePaul Societyís Marquette, Negaunee, Ishpeming, and Republic programs. A portion of all monies raised is donated to CROPís International efforts as well. In short, the combined efforts of the CROP walk participants benefit the hungry throughout Marquette County and worldwide.

To donate, volunteer or for more information, please Pastor Katherine Finegan at 906-228-2300 or Marcia Parkkonen at 906-360-1590.
