Fort Lewis, an NCAA II institution, is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Counseling Center

Tom Stanger served as the director of clinical services and coordinator of the group therapy program, clinical therapist, supervisor and consultant at Appalachian State University for 8 years before coming to NMU as the Director of the Counseling Center. He earned his formal degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of Florida, and gained less formal education through 4 years of living in rural Southern Africa, and 3 years counseling Cuban refugees and juvenile delinquents in a wilderness rehabilitation program. Tom specializes in brief, focused therapy, group interventions, and self-identity development. Database development also became a specialized, if not peculiar, niche of his. Racquetball and pool are among his favorite get-aways, but talking him into trying his hand at most sports or outdoor activities is not a difficult task. If the rumors of all the snow in the UP are true, he assumes he will add skiing to that list.
