NAS 340: Kinomaage
The Earth Shows Us the Way

Kinomaage immerses students in the wilderness of the Upper Peninsula. This immersion helps us all to learn how "The earth shows us the way" when it comes to learning to identify and use plants traditionally used for food by the Ojibwe. The immersion is also part of understanding the vibrant woodland communities these plants are a part of and the impact industrial civilization is having on the Northwoods itself, the generations-old home of the Ojibwe. Not only does Mother Earth provide us with the knowledge of how to survive from the land, she also teaches us what constitutes a rightful relationship with the land. Discussions, student-directed research, and field trips are emphasized.
