Shirley has been with the Multicultural Center since 1994 and holds a master of fine arts degree in creative writing. She is a contingent professor with the Center for Native American Studies. Originally from Ironwood, Shirley relocated to the Marquette area in 1989. She has three adult children, one grandson and one granddaughter.  In her spare time she likes to read, knit, and catch Glee or America's Got Talent on TV.

Rena is originally from Gwinn, Michigan.  She holds her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Lake Superior State University.  In her spare time, she enjoys reading, movies, traveling, fourwheeling, volunteering, and family time.  Rena’s favorite location that she has traveled to, so far, is Anchorage, Alaska.

Luke is a Master of Biology student at NMU. He received his Bachelor of Science from NMU in May 2016. His research interest are in microbial ecology and microbial evolution. He is from Montgomery, Michigan, but calls Marquette his home now. Luke enjoys camping, fishing, playing with his cats, and watching Star Trek, Stranger Things and Orange is the New Black on Netflix. Luke plans to pursue a Doctorate in Biology. He is a Ravenclaw and dreams of attending Hogwarts someday.

Samanthia is a senior majoring in zoology. She was born and bred Jamaican and takes great pride in her Jamaican nationality and culture.  She loves sharing her culture with others, so feel free to come and ask her about it. She is a member of Northern's women's track and field team as a thrower and as a two time All-American and All-Academic athlete. She enjoys working at the MERC and meeting the many different students that come in on a daily basis.

Julia is a pre-medical student and is seeking a Neuroscience degree. Her future career goals are to become an emergency medical doctor in a hospital somewhere near mountains as she is highly passionate about rock and ice climbing, backpacking, kayaking, and swimming. If you ask, she will tell you all the best places where to climb or hike around Marquette.

Julio is a senior from Chicago, Illinois currently majoring in International Studies. He enjoys traveling, working out, and eating. Julio has done many interesting things including backpacking around South America and teaching English in Taiwan. Julio is involved in Latino Student's Union and the McNair's Scholars Program Julio hopes to pursue a graduate degree in international studies after graduating from NMU.

Madeline is a sophomore this year at NMU with a major in Psychology and a minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies. She is from Gladstone, Michigan and loves Fall in the U.P. Madeline hopes to be a transgender advocate while using her small town experience as an inspiration to Trans youth.
