Favorite place to visit abroad: My favorite place to visit is my homeland - Russia. My American husband loves going there also. You can find incredible people, outstanding hospitality, breathtaking tourist sights, ancient culture and traditions, beautiful nature, delicious food in Russia. I have pictures to prove it. Favorite subject to teach and why you like to teach: I have been teaching English language for 20 years and Russian language for 4 years. It is an amazing feeling when my students start speaking a foreign language. I help them to open the whole different world. They change a lot. They see the world, people, their place in the world from the different angle. Fun Fact: I used to teach English in a public school. Economy was tough and I was looking for the opportunity to increase my income. I got once in a lifetime opportunity to work as an interpreter and a translator in a big investment company. It was an unforgettable experience. One of my school colleagues told me that I would come back to teaching. The idea was that once you start teaching, you will always teach. She was right. My life changed and I came back to teaching career. It was a private language school in Russia. Now I teach in NMU, and I will never forget what my Russian colleague told me. |

Favorite places to visit abroad: France or Wales, where I am often invited to read/perform my poetry in both French and English. Favorite subject to teach and why you like to teach: Poetry. I love the intimate workshop settings I build with my graduate students, who truly appreciate my dedication to and concern for them. Fun Fact: I’m restoring a lovely Queen Anne Victorian home in Ishpeming, reputed to be haunted. I’ve filled it with furnishings and travel artifacts from both France and England, reflecting my identity as a bilingual writer who benefits from both Francophone and Anglophone literatures and culture.
