Biography and Assignment History

LTC John A. McLaughlin received his commission in the Infantry after graduating from Lafayette College in 1995. His first assignment as a lieutenant was with the 2ndBattalion, 187th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) ID at Fort Campbell, Kentucky where he served as a Rifle Platoon Leader, Heavy Weapons Platoon Leader, and Company Executive Officer.

LTC McLaughlin has also served in various command and staff positions to include company commander of C Company, 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Squadron Operations Officer of 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. His most recent assignment was as Chief of Future Operations for 25th Infantry Division.

LTC McLaughlin has had several operational and combat deployments to Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. His awards and decorations include three Bronze Stars, three Meritorious Service Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, the Parachutist’s Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and the Ranger Tab. He has earned a Master’s degree in Military Arts and Science from the School of Advanced Military Studies at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

LTC McLaughlin is married to the former Amanda Fox of Canton, Ohio since June 2003. They have one daughter, Genevieve.
