Mark Blumenthal is the Scholarships and Enrollment Officer for the Wildcat Battalion of U.S. Army ROTC at Northern Michigan University.  Mark joined the NMU Wildcat Battalion in August of 2014.

Military Service
Mark is a retired U.S. Marine with both enlisted and commissioned service.  Mark served as an enlisted infantryman and, after commissioning, as a military police officer.  Mark's assignments include:  Marine Corps Security Forces, Norfolk, VA; 1st Battalion/3rd Marine Regiment, Kaneohe Bay, HI; Officer Candidate, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH; Platoon Commander, Security Battalion, Quantico, VA; Operations/Executive Officer, Recruiting Station Indianapolis, IN; Operations Officer/Flightline Security Officer, Security Department, Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, NC; National Training Team, Marine Corps Recruiting Command, Quantico, VA; Deputy Provost Marshal, Security Battalion, Quantico, VA; Regional Coordinator, Security Cooperation, Education and Training Center, Marine Corps Training Education Command, Quantico, VA, and, shortley after retiring from the Marine Corps, Chief of Police/Antiterrorism Officer, Naval Station Great Lakes, IL.

Mark is a graduate of the Air Force Security Officer Course, Army Military Police Officer Advanced Course, FBI Firearms Instructor Course, Marine Recruiting Management Course, Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School, Department of Defense Anti-Terrorism Officer Course, FBI National Academy, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Department of Defense International Security Assistance Management Course and the FBI Crisis Negotiators Course.

Mark’s military awards and decorations include two Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, two Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medals, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, two Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Navy Unit Citation, three Meritorious Unit Citations, three Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and two Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbons.

Mark is originally from Mount Clemens, MI and resides with his wife in the Northern Michigan wilderness near Manistique, MI.  The Blumenthals have a son, Andrew, who received both undergraduate and graduate degrees from NMU and who is employed by the University of Michigan in student affairs.
