Assistant Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion Search

Northern Michigan University is excited to announce that effective Monday, January 8, Dr. Shawnrece Campbell will be joining Northern Michigan University as the Assistant Vice President, Diversity & Inclusion. Dr. Campbell joins us from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi, Texas (a 10,000 student institution) where she most recently served as the Competency-Based Project Director & Coordinator. In this role, she worked directly with Latinx adult learners to provide comprehensive student support and coaching to improve student retention and accelerate degree completion. She also previously served as the Dean, College of Liberal Arts, and Director, School of Art, Media & Communication at the university.

Dr. Campbell previously worked at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida, where she served in numerous leadership roles including Associate Dean, College of Arts & Sciences, President of the Stetson University American Association of University Women (AAUW) Branch, Adviser and Strategist, Equity and Inclusion Group (EIG), and the Founding Director and Program Chair for the Adult Degree Completion Program in Organizational Leadership.  

Dr. Campbell completed her B.A. in English at John Carroll University, her M.A. in English with Technical Writing Focus at Youngstown State University, her M.B.A. at Stetson University, and her Ph.D. in English: African American & Multicultural Literature at Kent State University.

She will be working primarily remotely until the end of February and will be relocating to Marquette with her partner, Ruben. Until then, you can reach her at shcampbe@nmu.edu.
