Every month McNair scholars are expected to meet with a member of the McNair staff. During these meetings, scholars are encouraged to talk about their relationship with their faculty mentor, their research project, graduate school preparation, and other academics and financial issues. In addition to helping facilitate productive research experiences and graduate school guidance, McNair staff members can also provide direction to participants in the areas of academics and financial aid.
When participants first enter the McNair Scholars Program, they are given an academic and learning style assessment. This assessment and other tools are used to develop an individualized academic support plan that identifies necessary services, both on-campus and within the community, that can assist scholars in meeting their academic and personal goals. In their monthly meetings, scholars will update staff members on challenges they are having academically or personally and changes are made to their support plans, as needed.
